Announcements ANDERSON FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT Fire Chief: Andy Nichols
The Anderson Fire Protection District would like to give special thanks to our local Redding Rancheria (Win-River Casino) for making it possible through their sponsorship of a project that has provided the funding for three, seasonal firefighters for the 2011 fire season. This project had been submitted in grant application by the Anderson Fire Protection District and was selected during the grant application process. The funding was appropriated through Indian Gaming Funds (SB621) with the State Controllers Office allocating the money to grant recipients directly. As the 2011 fire season was approaching, the Anderson Fire Protection District had planned on cutting its Seasonal Firefighter program for the 2011 fire season, mostly due to the continuing decline of our revenue for the past two consecutive years. That was changed when the Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee selected our project that the Redding Rancheria had sponsored. Recently, the Anderson Fire Protection District received a check for $ 31,997 to fund the three, seasonal firefighter positions throughout this fire season. Now, each seasonal firefighter is working on a rotational schedule, allowing Anderson Fire to staff the on-duty engine with three personnel for 10 hours each day during the critical part of the day. The seasonal firefighters started on June 20th, which was none too soon, for on June 21st our first wildland fire broke out, west of Interstate 5 and just north of the Sacramento River. Anderson Fire was the first engine on scene, and with the additional manpower, was able to suppress the forward spread of the fire. The fire was burning toward heavy vegetation and a storage area of the Sacramento River RV Park, where trailers, boats and other larger items are stored. Again, on June 27th, Anderson Fire was dispatched to a grass fire near the end of Barney Street. Anderson Fire, which was staffed with three personnel, was the first engine on scene and was able to perform a mobile attack on the fire, keeping the fire from reaching some commercial buildings along Barney Street. The fire started on Industrial Road near the entrance of Wheelabrator Shasta Energy Company, Inc.s yard. It was a fast moving fire through the grass, eventually torching in some conifer trees, causing the fire to spot across the ACID Canal and Locus Street. It started numerous spot fires in the old Roseburg site, as well as a fire on top of one of the old buildings still standing. On behalf of the Anderson Fire Protection District, I want to personally thank the Redding Rancheria for its sponsorship of the project that has funded three, seasonal firefighter positions for our Fire District for the 2011 fire season. Additional manpower is always a valuable resource during fire season and benefits not only the Anderson community but the surrounding communities as well.
Anderson Fire Protection District would also like to thank the local Anderson Wal-Mart for a grant for $838 we received, making it possible through a Local Community Grant for a project that has provided our first out fire engines with a dash mounted GPS (Global Positioning System). These GPS units are used to locate address and streets much quicker. |
